Fitness Evaluations

Personal training at JTPT starts with fitness evaluations. Your fitness evaluation is based upon the testing standards put forth by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). The evaluation specifically tests cardiovascular fitness and risk factors, muscular strength and endurance, body composition, and flexibility. Once your current level of fitness has been assessed, we will create a tailored exercise program to fit your needs.

Your strength training program will include a variety of disciplines including a combination of free weights and machine-based training, BOSU and Swiss ball training, and manual resistance. Variety will keep the exercise session fun and challenging.

Stretching and Flexibility

Flexibility training is more than just injury prevention. Whether you are training for personal benefit or are a serious competitor, proper stretching during and after your workout will help to improve your performance, increase your flexibility, and make you feel better. Generally, 10 to 15 minutes of stretching is recommended per session.

If you have completed cardiac rehabilitation or physical therapy, we can help you adjust to community-based exercise. Many people find it hard to continue to exercise after rehabilitation because of the lack of supervision and instruction. We can consult with your physician or physical therapist to get specific recommendations to your exercise program, as well as send them progress reports on your training.

Cardiovascular Training

The cardiovascular training will emphasize target heart-rate training and interval training (mixing brief bouts of intense training with periods of lower-intensities). The training can be machine-based, outdoors, or indoors. We will recommend a mode of cardio training that is enjoyable and keeps you motivated.

"Jake is helping me get this almost-60 body in gear to be in the best shape that I have been for a long while. I have worked (dabbled) with Jake for a couple of years now and decided to get more serious this year. I now work with him 3 times a week - up from 2 previously. He helped me figure out my metabolic type and I am now following a low-carb diet. I have lost 6 lbs in the past month and feel wonderful and energized! I know that Jake is there for me 7 days a week by email or phone and I can always share any concerns or problems with him. Also, he is continuously keeping abreast of new fitness techniques and changes in his field. Jake will listen to you and customize a fitness plan that works for you as an individual!"
